A Cliff Hanger

Abuna.jpg

The Eden team had another awesome experience in Ethiopia. Roger, Thomas and Steve took a day off and went to Abuna Yemata Gur.

This site is a Sixth Century Orthodox Church that was carved into the side of an escarpment cliff to escape persecution.

“If you want to escape persecution this is the place to go. I'm not afraid of much - except falling from extreme heights for some reason. Half way up you have to take your shoes off because it's holy ground, and frankly easier to climb up without shoes. Climbing the mountain was nuts and climbing down was flat out terrifying. It was an unforgettable experience and one that I'll cherish in my nightmares for life. The inside of the church truly draws you closer to God, especially after the climb up the side of a cliff truly draws you so close to death. HA!” —  at Abuna Yemata Guh Ethiopia.
