And the answer is.......Mokotra
The Mokotra ("moukoutch") is a fruit with a green or yellow, wood-like shell. The Mokotra fruit grows on a tree that is a pioneer species in Madagascar that is fire resistant and grows in harsh soil, full sun and with little water.
To open the fruit, you typically have to smash it against a rock or other hard surface. This reveals a yellowish pulp that has a sweet & sour, butterscotch taste. You have to actually taste it to figure that one out. If you can get past the texture, the fruit is actually quite good and a favorite among the Malagasy villagers. Animals also love this fruit, especially the wild boars and lemurs.
If you ever get a chance, try a Mokotra...an interesting fruit from an amazing tree!
